Paula Rhodes: Somewhat live from Periscope Plaza where in order to get hired on the spot every Tuesday, @popculture27 will give you a visual/audio test to pass to go with your background check and credit check, it's @ The Buzzr. Now here he is, the master of everything buzz, and everybody's talking head, Pierre.......KELLY!
Me: Welcome to @ The Buzzr, where all lost cats & kittens find an owner by way of a GPS. Our topic is.....
Charades.
In the 1970's...
By the 1980's.....
Now it's 1990. There's a new show that may be coming and it is.....
The Buzzr Beater question wanted you to know if Peter Tomarken who is now dead for 10 years, god rest his soul would've worked for Mark Goodson and you said yes. H-E....something would've froze over in 1989, but we'll have another one later on after I tell you more about Body talk.
(song stops)
2 Stars and 1 civilian go up against the same amount as men vs. women face off in red & blue like Trivia Trap has. The first round had 2 teams complete a charade faster, but one team must force another team to do a word or phrase. You can do that 4 times. Then comes the panic round in which civilans have 30 seconds to act 5 words to celebrities. Round 3 has one teams set a time to see who can complete a charade the fastest. That team can either challenge or take it for minus 1 second. First to $2000 wins the whole thing and plays with 10 members of the studio audience by letting the members act out to the winning team for $7000 more. Not bad, but the bonus round from Showoffs or Body Language needs to work in order for it to get sold. Having audience members in the bonus round killed it, but it was 1990 and that kept Match Game on the air, not to mention the rise and dominance of talk shows.
Your buzzr Beater question is, Which charade show by Mark Goodson is better for you? You got 2 weeks to answer it.
And there is no more time to talk. To complete the #lostnfun experiement, the 1992 Family Feud challenge pilot. If there is any questions about the show, or would like to suggest a show or a host, please reach me on Facebook at : Pierre Jason Kelly, or @Johnny_Arcade on Twitter and we'll explain. Until then, it's PK signing off and we'll see you.....@ The.....
Paula Rhodes: Going to film to make it a live thing from Periscope Plaza where Doug & Ally might take a photo of your ID badge picture on a police lineup wall, it's @ The Buzzr. Now here he is, the master of everything buzz, and somewhat disgruntled letter carrier, Pierre.......KELLY!
Me: Welcome to @ The Buzzr, where the parking garage outside is no place to play Jenga. On with our topic.....
What if all 3 players had to compete for a week? What if Peter Tomarken wanted to take a shot at working for Mark Goodson? And what if Jeopardy married the Blockbusters Gold Run and had a baby?
Well, what if I told you......TKO would be our subject? I'll tell you more once I return.
The Buzzr Beater question asked you if On A Roll ripped off something.....and it was Yes. Because ripping off other game shows can't sell you. Now back to TKO.
Each round in particular had 20 questions. Each worth $100-$500 in round 1 and double in round 2. A couple of Knockout questions knocked anyone out if correct. Now how are the questions determined? By letters. Say the correct initals to dechiper the answer and you score cash. Round 3 is the Knockout game. From $500-$1000 at random anytime you buzz in and knock cash off the score. Take your opponent down to zero, and it's "TKO." Last one standing takes all the money plus $5000. I like how the game goes, but the 3rd round seemed to kill execs at ABC. So they passed sadly in favor of Match Game with Ross Shafer. How sad.
But the Buzzr Beater question will make you happy. Do you think Peter Tomarken should've worked for Mark Goodson? I'll put it up on Facebook & Twitter.
And with that, it's G2G. Next up: Body Talk. If there is any questions about the show, or would like to suggest a show or a host, please reach me on Facebook at : Pierre Jason Kelly, or @Johnny_Arcade on Twitter and we'll explain. Until then, it's PK signing off and we'll see you.....@ The.....
Paula Rhodes: Not quite live from Periscope Plaza where all hearts tapped are half-off, it's @ The Buzzr. Now here he is, the master of everything buzz, and the master of throwed rolls at Lambert's in Missouri, Pierre.......KELLY!
Me: Welcome to @ The Buzzr, where we slow jam traffic & weather every 10 minutes.....or 30 minutes....okay, an hour......okay, let's move on. Today.....
Rolling Along.
Mark Goodson seemed to run out of ideas. Trivia Trap was the last true orginal to hit the airwaves. So he needed something to make it work. The year was 1986. Card Sharks with Bob Eubanks was on the air. The company needed something to add in at daytime. The show....
The Buzzr beater question wants to know what was your favorite part of the Star Words Pilot? Since nobody answered, I was thinking Nipsey. Maybe a new Buzzr Beater question in a new way can help. More on that later, but first, On a Roll.
(song stops)
It all starts with a pair...
Uh...not this pair....
Not this pair either.....
That's the pair. Linda & Lisa, the Doublemint Twins. This was supposed to be David Sparks' first time as host and the game begins by playing The Name Game.
This will be Ripoff #1: taking something from Scrabble's Speedword and The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime. The name begins backwards starting with the last letter. Whoever buzzes in first....gets control of the dice which you may use....
On this board right here. Ripoff #2: Take a well-known syndicated smash and make it your own. Mark took the popular megahit Wheel Of Fortune and turned it into.....this.
The game arena gives us Ripoff #3: Taking Heatter-Quigley's piece and making it your piece. Look what High Rollers did. Roll doubles and you get insurance for bad numbers. But on this show, if you roll doubles....it costs your turn. Plus, what makes it pointless is if you roll a 12.....same thing. 2 games wins the match and $1000. Plus, all wins had to be showered by the last few seconds of the showcase showdown cue from the pre-Carey TPIR era. That's because this program was where TPIR was (and still is) taped.
Now you must play Lucky 7. Yes, Mark Goodson took a popular TPIR car game and made it a bonus round. It's for $1,000 times what ever your roll. Say you get an 8, it's $8,000 and the same for every number 2-12. In it, you have 60 seconds to say the words that fit the subject. Get all 7 and you get whatever money you rolled before the round began. And that kids, is on a roll.
Now I have a Buzzr beater question.....but in a new way. It'll be on the Facebook page and on my twitter feed. You'll answer it in a 2-week time limit. Just wait for it.
Time to roll on outta here. Next up: TKO. If there is any questions about the show, or would like to suggest a show or a host, please reach me on Facebook at : Pierre Jason Kelly, or @Johnny_Arcade on Twitter and we'll explain. Until then, it's PK signing off and we'll see you.....@ The.....
Paula Rhodes: About to create a bi-weekly event from Periscope Plaza where I got my degree in Jaxsology......seriously...... it's @ The Buzzr. Now here he is, the master of everything buzz, the guy who sleeps with glow in the dark stars on his celing, Pierre.......KELLY!
Me: Welcome to @ The Buzzr, where we give credit where credit is graded by 4th grade teachers. Today.....
Stars & Words.
It seems that Cards Without Humanity and Apples to Apples have the right to judge. By 1983, Steve Ryan wanted to inspire them both. Star Words was the show.
This was to have a spot on the CBS schedule, but when I return, we'll tell you how it goes.
Here's the Buzzr Beater query, Do you think Play For Keeps would've ruined the reputation of Goodson-Todman? I would've said no, because it would ruin it a bit, but G-T is a legendary company. On to more of Star words and the Buzzr Beater question afterwards.
(song stops)
Object of the game is to match the words given by the stars, but the contestants on the monitor have to pick 2 words and then head off into isolation via "turn the screen off." The star then must think of an answer for the contestant to match for money. A wrong guess and you lose control. This pilot happened in most cases.....and when I say most cases, I mean it. If both teams miss, it'll be a "Final Shot" for double the money. This continues until round 3, the catch-up round in which the trailing team have one last attempt to get into the lead. The team with the most money wins it all. April triumphed over Jeff in the pilot you just saw by the final score of....150-50. Yes, 150-50. And on top of all that, Nipsey Russell's first attempt at being a game show host.
The winning team got to play "Super Star Words" in which 2 of 10 words must match to what the host read, but in reverse. The team had 60 seconds to get all 10 for $5000 for $100 for each correct connection.
I guess Star Words would've been a perfect fit for the schedule, but apparently, CBS wanted to go with this instead.....
And that kids, is Star Words.
So, our Buzzr Beater question is....what part of the Star Words pilot did you like? Only 2 weeks is your limit.
And that's our word. On our next edition: On a Roll. If there is any questions about the show, or would like to suggest a show or a host, please reach me on Facebook at : Pierre Jason Kelly, or @Johnny_Arcade on Twitter and we'll explain. Until then, it's PK signing off and we'll see you.....@ The.....
Me: Hello kids & kidettes, it's @ The Buzzr. As I promised you on our FB fan page, the #LOSTNFUN promotion gimmick. The way it works is we will show you unsold pilots Buzzr has aired leading up to Family Feud's 1992 experiment. And it all begins with......
When to Keep Playing.
The 1950's was the most controversial. It was all because of the big money scandals and The Price is Right back then only had prizes and not money under Bill Cullen's version. Before all this, G-T had its first big hit.....
It was for a number of reasons, but we go to 1956 and G-T wanted to spice things up a bit. The result:
As soon as I return, we'll tell you about the 1956 unsold offering.
On to the Buzzr Beater question about which version of BTC did you prefer? I had to vote for the Collyer version, because it stayed true to the format. We'll have another one after we go back to Play for Keeps.
(song stops)
The opening went like this....
(Bell SFX) BENNETT: "That's the champion's bell. And this is our current champion, Mrs. Helen Trudeau. Mrs. Trudeau, how long have you been on our program?" TRUDEAU: "This is my fourth day." BENNETT: "And how much have you already won?" TRUDEAU: "$15,000."
Stop right there. $15,000. What kind of idiot would give her the money. Oh yeah, this was a pilot to see what would work. So they gave her $15,000 to play around with and the intro tells us this:
Yes, it's "Play For Keeps!", where big decisions play for big money every day of the week.
So you can imagine if all 7 days aired it on what was supposed to be CBS then....it would be interesting to see it. Now let's talk about how it all goes down.
The champion would go under the 3 factors.
1. A new challenger would arrive to see if the champion would play or not. If the champion decides not to, I don't know what was going to happen.
2. Which category you were going to defend. They were:
AMERICAN NOVELS SHAKESPEARE U.S. PRESIDENTS MYSTERY STORIES PREICOUS GEMS
MEDICINE SILENT PICTURES GENERAL INFORMATION
FAMOUS WIVES
POETRY
and the one that misspelled it: World Capitals, It was spelled with an O...as in Ostrich.
And finally, how much of what he/she earned to either double it or have the challenger take the wager. Best of 5 wins everything. As far as the buzzer/bell thing was concerned, it was like it came out of a comic book or something. Sonny Fox kept the players in suspense. Here's the pilot for good or bad taste.
For me, I think having money you keep would've kept the big money scandals at bay, but it was a nice quiz program nonetheless, and the "Sponsor" was just inside a bell. Keep in mind, it was a pilot. And that was Play for Keeps.
Here's a question for you: Do You Think Play for Keeps would've ruined the reputation of G-T? You have 2 weeks to do that. Go!
It's a keeper. On our next edition: Star Words. If there is any questions about the show, or would like to suggest a show or a host, please reach me on Facebook at : Pierre Jason Kelly, or @Johnny_Arcade on Twitter and we'll explain. Until then, it's PK signing off and we'll see you.....@ The.....
Paula Rhodes: Supposedly live from Periscope Plaza where AImee Nolte tickles the ivories 6 nights a week from 7-11 pm with requests necessary and a tip jar made out of a fountain cup from the gas station, it's @ The Buzzr. Now here he is, the master of everything buzz, the man who takes a licking and keeps on ticking, Pierre.......KELLY!
Me: Welcome to the first @ The Buzzr of 2016, we believe that Buzzr will continue to grow this year through this blog as we journey through everything about a digital subchannel. Today.....
Time.
Before he became the first host of To Tell The Truth, Bud Collyer presided over the stunt show known as "Beat The Clock." Lasting through the 50's & 60's, it involved couples vying for prizes doing stunts in under a minute. That set the standard for a later syndicated version....
First with Jack Narz...
And later with Gene Wood when it became the only G-T show to be filmed in Canada. But when I return, BTC comes back to the network.
We asked you what aspects of Double Dare did you like in the Buzzr Beater question and for the first time in the blog....it was a dead heat between The Set & The Isolation Booths. The theme song would've worked since it carried over to Card Sharks, but that's another edition down the road. Now back to today's subject.
(song stops)
By 1979, CBS wanted to have Beat The Clock back as a companion to Whew! which was already on the air at that time, ironically, real-life brothers Tom Kennedy & Jack Narz did it separate. Jack was the announcer on BTC while Tom played host on Whew! They needed a host. Enter.....Monty Hall. Yes, THE Monty Hall of LMAD fame, to be on the only G-T show he hosted despite being a panelist on other G-T shows.
With the set giving an upgrade to the 50's version, and a live band in tow, 2 teams (red & green) started it with a toss-up stunt for the right to play another stunt for extra money in 2 rounds with a shuffleboard round to determine how much money they'll play for up to $10,000. By then, it'll be one final stunt for all the loot. That worked okay, but by later in the year.....
the format was unchanged except.....celebrities played for the audience sections divided. That lasted until February of 1980. By 2002.....
It had a one-season revival with SNL alum Gary Kroeger hosting. By the time the Buzzr Youtube channel came along....
SourceFed personality Elliott Morgan took over as host. And that is Beat The Clock.
Time now for a Buzzr Beater question. What's your favorite version of BTC? You have a 2-week time limit to figure it out.
And time is up. If there is any questions about the show, or would like to suggest a show or a host, please reach me on Facebook at : Pierre Jason Kelly, or @Johnny_Arcade on Twitter and we'll explain. Until then, it's PK signing off and we'll see you.....@ The.....
