Paula Rhodes: Live....well not quite from Periscope Plaza right across the street from a school where Life Is Strange was filmed here, it's @ The Buzzr. Now here he is, the master of everything buzz, The man who pays attention behind the curtain, Pierre.......KELLY!

Me: Hey there and Welcome to @ The Buzzr, your guide about Buzzr in a nutshell. We talk about the hosts, the game shows and everything in between. So let's stop talking about it and let's talk about.....

Dealing.

Monty Hall was doing Video Village up in NYC in which 2 players tackled a board game similar to that of the 90's game Peer Pressure. By the time he moved to LA, he wanted to produce some shows. Examples were Chain Letter and Your First Impression. But by the last month of 1963, this happened.....

That turned out to be Let's Make a Deal. The object was to trade what you don't like for something nice.....or something worse like.....zonks. They're worthless prizes like animals, old cars and stuff. The top 2 dealers traded in one more time for the big deal of the day picking one of 3 doors. Carol Merrill modeled the prizes and Jay Stewart was Monty's sidekick and announcer and cosplayer in the zonks. It made it's debut on NBC but by 1968 it moved to ABC and when I return, how one hat attracted attention which led to something and a problem about the host.

Per usual, we tell you what the results to our last Buzzr Beater question which was....

Admit it. Who is your favorite Match Game semi-regular?

The winner turned out to be Garry Burghoff with 4, 2nd going to Betty White who should've been won with 2 and 1 going to Fannie Flagg. We'll give you the question after we tell you more on Deal.

(song fades out)

With the show still on NBC, one lady was dressed in a hat got Monty's attention. Later on......this happened......

Before you know it, it was a Halloween party every day. People dressed up got the attention of Monty Hall and until 1977 in both ABC & syndication, the show exploded into popularity before TPIR came in 1972 to rival that.

LMAD was revived in 1980, in Canada, back in 1984-86 in the US, 1990 in Florida under Bob Hilton as host, 2003 as Billy Bush and primetime and since 2009 with Wayne Brady. Today, LMAD continues to be a daytime hit now paired with TPIR on CBS and is the only Hatos-Hall program now owned by Fremantle. But people want to know, what is the Monty Hall Problem? Many in high school and college have tackled it and now we're giving it to you.

Now the Buzzr Beater question: If I were to go on LMAD, I would win........what? Answer that on the right side of the blog. 2 weeks will be your time limit.

And that's going to close the curtain on a classic luck-based game.  If there is any questions about the show, or would like to suggest a show or a host, please reach me on Facebook at : Pierre Jason Kelly, or @Johnny_Arcade on Twitter and we'll explain. Paula Rhodes: Nearly live from Periscope Plaza just outside the cell phone store where a costume store used to be, it's @ The Buzzr. Now here he is, the master of everything buzz, the man who wouldn't draw a blank to get his ex-girlfriend's attention, Pierre.......KELLY!

Me: Hey everyone and this is @ The Buzzr. Welcome to the premiere episode of a series in which we'll get to know Buzzr in a certain way. We'll dsicuss your favorite game shows, the hosts who do it and the people that make a classic game show....well, classic. So sit back, grab a snack and get ready, you're @ The Buzzr with the first subject....

Match Game has held a history starting in 1962 on NBC. All it did was have you & 2 stars match answers to reach a certain score to win the game. Today, we'll focus on the 1973-82 version.

When CBS had a revival in Match Game after TPIR went on the air in 1972, the concept was to have 2 players on one side and 6 celebrities to match answers in 2 rounds to have one person win $5000. At first, it sounded like a good idea to have Family Feud-style questions in its early years, but once it became humorous, it was more funny & raucous at times. With remakes as one-half of a particular hybrid with the Hollywood Squares in 1983, another with Ross Shafer in 1990 and Michael Burger in 1998, it seemed that the humor in those remakes were a bit staler to watch. But with Gene Rayburn's classic version, it was okay with the program once being the #1 daytime show at the time. When I return, we'll look at the classic panel and a new addition that left one panelist behind.

Right now, we have to give you the results to our Buzzr Beater question. I will explain why in a minute. The question was.....

Finish the Following sentence: "I Like Buzzr because of..."

Well, only one chimed in with the classic game shows. We'll get to our Buzzr beater question after we reveal more of MG's legacy....

The real thing why Match Game became successful was its panel. Starting 1st, it was the male person. Usually Gary Burghoff or somebody else. 2nd & 3rd positions went to Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly. The real reason they were part of the panel is because they were like Burns & Allen. These 2 really stuck it out until the very end. The 4th position went to a young starlet who tells little jokes, but get answers quickly. The 5th would be Richard Dawson. Many contestants in the head-to-head match prior to 1978 chose him to help players win a lot of dough which lead to being the widely picked panelist in the group. The 6th would be a semi-regular like for instance Betty White or Fannie Flagg, but gets a more humorous answer. By 1978, things changed....

The invention of the Starwheel helped contestants double the money. It led to Richard Dawson's departure because he was doing Family Feud at the time, and the show was off the air by 1979. But syndication didn't give up hope for it. With the addition of a weekly PM show starting in 1975, 1979-82 was the time in which a syndicated version was shown. There were plans for a 1985 version, but Gene Rayburn refused to do it because tabloids revealed his age at the time, so it was brought back in reruns with nighttime TPIR in. But the 1973-82 version is something we can all remember.

Now the Buzzr Beater question:

Admit it. Who is your favorite Match game semi-regular. Not regulars, semi-regular. The panelists who appear from time to time. You have 2 weeks to answer it. It'll be on the right side of the blog.

And that's it. Thanks for being part of a journey through a funny 70's game show.
